Kate Hudson has every reason to feel like a boss. She’s a successful actress; cofounded a bomb line of fitness apparel for ladies; and has two adorable kids. But while she’s seemingly checking off all the boxes of success, the 36-year-old is proving all of us have our struggles, especially when it comes to balancing family and a busy career.

In a recent essay she penned for InStyle, titled, “Sometimes I Feel Like a Bad Mom,” Hudson gets real about the challenges of motherhood, admitting that sometimes, it’s all pretty freakin’ difficult.

“Some days I feel like I should win best mom of the day award, and some days I find myself doing strange things that don’t have any real purpose, in faraway corners in my house, and I realize I am literally and deliberately hiding from my children.” A sentiment that any parent fantasizing about a precious moment of alone time can surely relate to.

In the essay, Hudson also opens up about the guilt that sometimes comes with being a working mom, trying to make enough time for your family and your own dreams as well.

“As a woman I feel that somehow we are supposed to feel apologetic about wanting both,” she wrote. “But I don’t want to apologize for that anymore. Being a mom already comes at an emotional cost, without adding society’s antiquated ideas of the traditional roles of man and woman in a home.”
