On Tuesday night, celebrities gathered in New York City for People en Español's 50 Most Beautiful Party, and Dascha Polanco was there looking amazing as ever. However, as with most celebrity events, fashion "experts" like to dissect each red-carpet look, and as we've seen time and time again, the comments can sometimes come off as judgmental. The Orange Is The New Black star posted on her social media platforms exactly how those comments came across when Univision's El Gordo y la Flaca criticized her look.
"Dos mujeres un vestido" said host Lili Estefan when she began to discuss the white cut-out dress that was worn by both Polanco and Venezuelan TV host Daniela di Giacomo. What made this matter even more awkward and uncalled for is that Di Giacomo was standing alongside El Gordo y la Flaca while they were discussing the dress! Host Raúl De Molina said the dress looked better on di Giacomo, and it was really painful to watch. But if you must, check out the clip below.
Polanco responded on social media saying:
"It’s really tasteless to come across today that a host of @univision @elgordoylaflaca have used poor choices of words that have become offensive. They have created an environment in which it has ignited bullying across their platforms & has instigated against my weight due to the same dress being worn by one of their hosts and I last night. Interesting that they chose to glorify something so superficial like this, and not focus on the issues Latinos face in Hollywood. I don’t get how they allow their reporters to use profanity to make noise. #ismellgood #ieatbullies #OffensiveFoul #siempreyo #gordayto #estacurvasnuncasevanaenderezar"
And we completely agree! Have we not learned anything from these red-carpet TV shows in which commenting about someone's appearance is basically the same as just slamming them for how they look?
Both women looked phenomenal, end of story.
