The public outcry from Selena Quintanilla's fans and family did not stop Telemundo from moving forward with its "El Secreto de Selena" TV series, which is based on journalist María Celeste Arrarás' controversial book about the superstar's final days on earth.
According to the Latin Times, the network revealed the casting details of two characters during the Telemundo Upfront presentation, and one will shock you.

Mexican actress Alejandra Ley will be taking on the role of Quintanilla's killer, Yolanda Saldivar, which was a character we totally expected to see in the series.
But it was the next casting reveal that completely took us by surprise.
Telenovela star Marlene Favela — of "Gata Salvaje" and "El Zorro, la Espada y la Rosa" fame — will be playing Arrarás!
We knew that Arrarás was going to serve as executive producer of the series, but did not expect her to be portrayed as a character on the screen.
The journalist has received major backlash from the moment the TV project was announced in January.
Hoards of fans are furious with Arrarás' book because they feel it painted Quintanilla in a negative light by implying that she was having an affair. They are also pissed because they believe that Arrarás' main source during her investigation was Quintanilla's killer, Yolanda Saldívar. Even Quintanilla's sister was unable to hold back her anger, and dragged the journalist on Instagram, going as far as saying that Arrarás was "full of crap."
Arrarás responded to the angry fans in an open letter, stating that her intentions have always been genuine — she only wanted Quintanilla fans to get a real "glimpse of her life in those fateful last days."
We doubt that this new detail will appease those that do not want the project to see the light of day.
According to Telemundo's Instagram, the series will premiere in 2018.
"La reveladora historia detrás de la vida de #SelenaQuintanilla llegará a @telemundo en el 2018, 'El Secreto de Selena,'" they wrote.
