Selena Quintanilla fans everywhere were already fuming over the upcoming controversial "El Secreto de Selena" TV series. It's based on journalist María Celeste Arrarás' book, which takes a look at the final days of Selena Quintanilla's life. Her followers feel the project will tarnish the superstar's memory — they believe the book implied she was having an affair — and don't want it to see the light of day. However, the show is definitely happening, and the graphic nature of the leaked trailer is making fans upset all over again.
The trailer opens with video surveillance-style footage of the moment Quintanilla was shot by her fan club president Yolanda Saldivar on March 31, 1995 at the Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas.
You see an actress playing Quintanilla exit the hotel room while leaving a trail of blood behind her...
... before collapsing in the lobby of the hotel.
And just when you thought the clip couldn't get any more uncomfortable, it also shows a presumably dead Quintanilla dropping a faberge egg ring from her bloody hand on the hospital floor.
The graphic scenes are a stark contrast from how her death was portrayed in the "Selena" movie, which avoided showing her murder altogether.
There are also scenes of a frantic Saldivar, played by Mexican actress Alejandra Ley, pointing a gun to her head in her car at the scene of the crime during her standoff with the police.
Arrarás, who's being played by telenovela star Marlene Favela, will also be a star character. We see the chaos in the newsroom on the day of the murder before she breaks the tragic news to her TV audience.
And then the moment is shown that made many Quintanilla fans add Arrarás to their burn books — her interview with Saldivar after she was convicted of murder.
A final drop of Quintanilla's blood falling on her ring is the dramatic ending to the teaser.
Many fans expressed how uncomfortable they felt after watching the intense teaser in the comments of the video on YouTube.
It was clear the utter hatred of the project has not died down.
But some of her supporters are finding a silver lining, arguing whether you're for or against the series, Quintanilla will end up gaining new fans when all is said and done.
The series will premiere on Telemundo in 2018.
