The movie Selena came out in 1997 as a biographical musical drama about the Tejano pop star Selena Quintanilla shortly after her death. It was the ninth-highest grossing biopic of all time. Jennifer Lopez was selected out of 22,000 actresses for the role of Selena. Lopez was paid a $1 million for the role, making her the highest-paid Latina in Hollywood history at the time.
