Jackie Cruz is proud to be a Latina and doesn't care who knows it — hell, she flaunts it!
Cruz gave life to the angsty character Flaca on Netflix's hit show "Orange Is the New Black," but that's not all this powerhouse is known for. From her killer rendition of "Como La Flor" by Tejana queen Selena Quintanilla to her inspirational Tedx Talk about overcoming adversity, Cruz is not shy about her Latinidad, nor should she be.
The post hit home with her fans and Latinas alike. The post received over 45,000 likes in 48 hours, which shows how much her message resonated.
Her sentiment was positive, powerful, and nothing short of motivational.
With over 600 comments (and counting), people expressed how much her words meant to them.
The first line in her caption read, "To those who wanted a little spanish [sic]."
Cruz didn't alienate her audience by rewriting her caption in Spanish; rather she gave them the option to choose the language they felt the most comfortable with.
She even highlighted how important language is to the Latino culture.
"La historia de nuestra cultura es fuerte, nuestros colores son tan brillantes y nuestra hermosa e unificadora lengua hoy día es enseñada en casi todas las escuelas secundarias de la nación."
Her English translation: "The truth to our culture is so strong, our colors are so bright that our beautiful unifying language is now taught in just about every school nationwide."
And Cruz expressed herself beautifully in both languages.
"To be Latina, is a gift, and a privilege. Like any crown however, the one who wears it bears the weight. We must carry on our culture and who we are to the next generation and so on, so that they too can reign #iamlatina," she wrote.
