Kehlani Parrish — a.k.a. Kehlani — is the 20-year-old R&B artist taking the world by storm. Her mixtape You Should Be Here was praised by Billboard as "the year's first great R&B album", she had a sold-out tour, and was even nominated for a Grammy. Her success speaks volumes to her work ethic, but even successful people fall on hard times. It was reported that Kehlani was hospitalized for an attempted suicide.

According to the Center for Disease Control and PreventionLatinas have almost double the suicide attempt rate than white non-Latinas, and as she's a Latina, we're hoping that others can get the help that they need after looking at her situation.

Kehlani took to her Instagram to share a photo of her in the hospital bed with a heartwarmingly real message, but she has since wiped all of her photos from her profile. In her caption, Kehlani said, “Don’t believe the blogs you read. No one was cheated on and I’m not a bad person.” This is in response to the rumors that she was cheating on her boyfriend, Cavaliers basketball player Kyrie Irving, with singer Jahron Anthony Brathwaite that goes by PARTYNEXTDOOR. No matter the reason why she attempted to end her life, we're relieved that she's still here with us.

By 16 years old she was living on her own

In the same interview with Vibe, she opened up about her struggles at a young age: "I was out of the house at 16 by my own doing. It forced me to really grow up and take care of myself, and I learned a lot of things that your parents usually teach you on my own. I’ve always been a very young person with a very old soul," she said.

Her sexuality is fluid

When asked about why she's so open about being bisexual she responded by saying, "I wouldn’t even necessarily say I’m bisexual — I like who I like. I’ve dated both men and women. Sex is biological, but gender is mental. I’ve been with people who aren’t what they’re born into. You fall in love with a person’s mind, you fall in love with a person’s soul, not with whatever’s down there."
