Latinos and Jews aren’t often discussed in the same category. When I first met my husband in 2008, I was more than a little surprised when I discovered that despite his extremely “non-Latino” last name, he spoke Spanish way better than I did. Like many other Latinos, my husband has Jewish roots.

In fact, the Jewish population in Latin America is estimated around 500,000 — with more than half living in Argentina. Other countries like Brazil and Venezuela — and even Cuba — all have thriving Jewish communities, as well.
