Salma Hayek is a woman of many talents. She's an actress, an entrepreneur, and, as it turns out, an expert scuba diver. That little-known fact was revealed during an appearance on "The Late Late Show With James Corden."
While she's been diving for 40 years, not every session has been perfect, and the one horror story she shared with Corden will leave you in tears.
There was one occasion in the Bahamas where she dived so deep into the sea she needed to wear a device that monitored the amount of pressure her body was under.
If it beeped, it meant she needed to wait for her body to readjust before going any further.
When she came out she had "some interesting symptoms," but couldn't tell if it was from the dive or if it was from "all the beer I had the night before."
Even though she felt OK, someone with her panicked. The next thing she knew, she was being taken from a movie set to a decompression tank — where things got really interesting, to say the least.
First of all, it was tiny, and she had to stay in it for eight hours — a total nightmare if you're claustrophobic like Hayek.
To make matters worse, she had to share the space with a "crazy bohemian" man whose job was to keep bored patients awake by smacking them.
According to Hayek, you aren't allowed to bring something as simple as a book into the tank, out of fear that it'll go up in flames.
"But the worst part was that he was very flatulent," Hayek said. "He was not only crazy, he was full of gas!"
Hayek even feared for her life, wondering what could happen in the chamber with all the gas the man was, uh, creating. "My eyes were watering from the gas in the chamber," she added.
She decided to speak up. "I said, 'I’m sorry, dude, is there any way you can hold it?' By the way, he was cracking them with pride. And he goes 'No! I’m miserable here. The least I can get to do is have a good fart,'" she told Corden.
You can't make this stuff up!
She became increasingly nervous about the farting and asked, "What happens if I have to go to the bathroom or if YOU have to go to the bathroom?"
The man pulled out a dish from under a cot with a grin on his face and said, "You have to do it right here in front of me and I have to do it right here in front of you. Look at how close we’re going to get before this experience is over."
Needless to say, the incident scarred her. "It was horrible. I’m never going that deep again," she said.
We don't blame her one bit.
