Selena Gomez announced that she would be taking a year off for personal reasons two months ago, but we now have more insight about her situation, and also why she was spotted in Tennessee recently.

Gomez is "recovering at a Tennessee treatment facility" because she is suffering from "anxiety, panic attacks and depression," according to Us Weekly.

The source told the magazine that aside from taking care of her mental health, Gomez is also dealing with her lupus diagnosis.

"She can go to a very dark place," the source said, describing the rehab center, which is located outside of Nashville, as a "private and quiet place," but "super intense."

While she's been in rehab, Gomez has been out and about in Nashville.

On Sunday (October 9), the star was spotted dining with her grandparents at a restaurant in Townsend, Tennessee.

"She was laughing a lot with them while she was eating," said an eyewitness, who observed Gomez enjoying grits and chatting with fans. "She seemed happy and relaxed."

Two years ago, Gomez took a year off to deal with complications of lupus.

In 2014, her rep confirmed that the former Disney star checked into The Meadows recovery center in Wickenburg, Arizona, for "emotional issues."

A source also told Us Weekly that "Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her lupus is really catching up with her right now. She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."

Both stints in rehab have resulted in the cancelations of her tours: She scrapped her "Stars Dance" tour in 2014 and her "Revival" tour earlier this year.

Back in 2014, Gomez acknowledged her time off and thanked her fans for their support.

Kenneth M. Farber, the co-CEO and co-president of the Lupus Research Alliance, told People that while "it is not commonly known that depression, anxiety and panic attacks can be side effects of lupus, we are so proud of Selena for taking care of herself and bringing awareness to this sometimes very misunderstood illness."

Gomez has yet to break her silence regarding her latest bout of mental health issues, but we will update this post when she does.
