Sofia Vergara is having a rough week. At the 2017 Golden Globes, Vergara poked fun at her Colombian accent by accidentally saying "anal" instead of "annual."

While the TV stunt was intended as a joke, Twitter was quick to call out Sofia for perpetuating a stereotype.

The actress low-key responded to critics in the most Sofia way possible, by posting a Marilyn Monroe quote to her Instagram. Unfortunately, the quote is widely held to be fake.

The quote, which fully reads, "Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring," is widely discredited for having no source and being extremely out of character. Monroe's mother suffered from schizophrenia so for her to say "madness is beauty" is highly unlikely.

Previously, Vergara had hinted that she wrote the awards show joke herself.

The 44-year-old shared a photo of herself before hitting the stage, with the caption, “I look lonely backstage but I was just trying to come up with my an*s joke hahhahha!!!! #goldenglobes2017 #itsallaboutentertaining."

Asked afterward if she thought the joke was demeaning, she said, "I think it's absolutely the opposite. It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself."
