Kim Kardashian stoked the flames of kontroversy when she chose to transform into Selena Quintanilla this Halloween. Fans of the Queen of Tejano were torn over her choice — while some people applauded Kardashian for her flawless interpretation, others dragged her with accusations of cultural appropriation. Many questioned if she even knew anything about Quintanilla at all.
But if there's anyone who can settle this debate, it's Selena's sister, Suzette Quintanilla, and radio station Power 106 Los Angeles put her on the spot to do just that.
Suzette appeared on "The Cruz Show" where they asked her to weigh in on the multiple celebrities who donned a purple jumpsuit to pay homage to Selena.
She remained neutral and refused to pick a favorite between America Ferrera, Demi Lovato, and Kardashian, singing the praises of each instead.
The show didn't let her off the hook that easy, though. They pressed her to pick a favorite again later in the interview. The host said Kardashian was his top choice, and Suzette responded by saying, "She looked beautiful. She looked real Latina. I loved it."
She then told a story about the Kardashians that will silence critics who don't believe Kim is a real fan.
"A lot of people don't know this but I'm good friends with Adrienne Bailon," Suzette shared before telling an anecdote from back in the day when Bailon was dating Rob Kardashian.
She said one day she was hanging out with Bailon "and she had Rob on the phone and Kourtney [Kardashian] and all them were in the background and they were all singing my sister's music."
"They're big fans of our music from way back. And so to have [Kim] dress like that, it wasn't really a big surprise for me, it was definitely a great honor."
"And then I think Kylie [Jenner] last year was wearing a Selena shirt, and that didn't come as a surprise, either, because they are fans of Selena and our music, so it was cool."
She finished by highlighting the most important part about celebrities paying tribute to Selena. "Anybody that reps it, it's cool. It's just more power. More power to Selena."
Suzette clearly has no issues with the Kardashians/Jenners honoring her sister. As long as they are being respectful, they are keeping her legacy alive. That's all that matters.
