As a lead in three super successful sci-fi franchises ("Avatar," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and "Star Trek"), Zöe Saldaña is an inspiration to all young women looking for more kickass representation in Hollywood.
And Monday morning (July 18) while making a press stop for "Star Trek Beyond" on "Good Morning America," Saldaña came face to face with one of the young fans she's inspiring.
Saldaña, who plays Lieutenant Uhura, met "mini-Uhura." She had a super pressing question to ask the actress.
Throwing her hands on her hips, the young girl named Camilla asked,
When do you get to be captain of the starship?
That's right, this adorable child is already demanding women take charge and be the boss. Slow clap for whoever is raising her!
"That's a great question," Saldaña remarked, giving the young girl a high five.
Saldaña went on to explain that she'd love to be captain, and shared that "I did get a little glimpse of playing captain in this movie — and I loved it."
This interaction is further proof that young kids are paying attention to the images they see play out in the media on a constant basis.
Fortunately there are women like Saldaña for Camilla to look up to.
