From gorgeous gowns to skin-tight bodysuits, Dascha Polanco is no stranger to making abody positive splash on the red carpet. But at the 2017 SAG Awards, the "Orange Is the New Black" star made a major fashion statement with a message that transcended her curves.
The actress wore a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier tuxedo, worn open to reveal her black lacy bra...
Finger waves by celebrity hairstylist Cynthia Alvarez, Ruthie Davis heels, loads of Forever Mark diamonds, and a fun Gedebe red clutch completed the retro look styled by Darius Baptist.
And took to Instagram to explain her sartorial choice for the evening.
"Going Retro for the night with #JeanPaulGaultier #Vintage #Tuxedo Express yourself through #Fashion #FemaleEmpowerment #Unity #MyGlamSlayed," she wrote.
Polanco is clearly using her platform to help smash traditional gender roles that calls for women to wear dresses on the red carpet.
And Polanco's not alone. "Westworld" star Evan Rachel Wood has sworn to only wear suits this awards season to send the same message.
“I’ve always wanted to do it, I promised myself this year that I would wear a suit to every awards show,” Woods told E! News' Guiliana Rancic on the SAG Awards red carpet.
Fashion is fun, but women can wear whatever they want. Woods explained that she loved dresses "But I want to make sure that young girls and women know they aren’t a requirement and that you don’t have to wear one if you don’t want to."
"Just be yourself, because your worth is more than that,” she told Ryan Seacrest at the Golden Globes.
We love that both Polanco and Wood are using their platforms to encourage women everywhere to be themselves with style.
This is exactly the kind of trend we love to see. We can't wait to see how they will inspire us next.
