It still hasn't sunk in that one of Mexico's greatest treasures, Juan Gabriel (a.k.a. one of the greatest singers and song writers to ever live), passed away on Sunday. His music touched hearts around the world, and influenced so many lives — including Dominican and Puerto Rican actress Zoë Saldaña.
Zoe was in Mexico City to promote her new film, "Star Trek Beyond," and attended a press conference dressed in all black.
"Yes, I am in mourning, and I'm dressed in black in honor of Juan Gabriel. I grew up listening to his music," she told the attendees.
Like most of us, Saldaña said that she felt like he was gone too soon, but was grateful for the incredible legacy he left behind.
"Juan Gabriel was everything. You're raised as a little girl at home and no matter where you are in the world, if your parents are Latino and proud they will play the folk music that they like. Juan Gabriel was a staple for us," she added.
We can totally relate. His music will always take us back to our childhoods.
