It's hard to look at Gina Rodriguez's smile and imagine that the star once struggled with her body image. But the 31-year-old actress who battles a thyroid disease recently opened up to PeopleStyle about her struggle to embrace every curve while pursuing a career in Hollywood.

The actress was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease, a thyroid disorder, when she was 19 years old.

Soon it became challenging for her to maintain her weight.

Her struggles with her body almost got in the way of her "Jane the Virgin" destiny.

Rodriguez told PeopleStyle, "I was like, 'OK I want to be an actor. I want to be a leading lady.' But now I am being told there is no way I can because they are way skinnier, which was very destructive to me because I felt like I was getting curvy."

However, Rodriguez did not let that stop her and decided to use her circumstances to break the mold and open Hollywood's eyes to accept people whose bodies don't fit their twisted ideals.

“For many years I had a daily conversation with myself about how I was going to help make that change,” she said.

Rodriguez started questioning that self-destructive voice inside her head (the same one that's inside almost all of us) that made her nitpick every flaw.

"I started to realize that little demon that was inside of me, and I was going to find my unicorn and I was going to let them have a conversation because that unicorn was the one that was like, 'No, no, no. It’s just a freaking pimple. It’s just five pimples. They will go away eventually. It’s OK. Look at that smile though. Alright, so you’re curvier today. Yeah let’s work those curves," she said.

Obvi, her strategy totally worked: Today, Rodriguez is kicking ass with a flourishing career and a Golden Globe already under her belt.

She is encouraging other women to fight against that nasty inner voice just like she did.

Next time you're being too hard on yourself, just listen to this message she has for you!

“Recognize the voice that comes in but wants to tear down the beautiful, amazing human being that you are. You know what? You are the most beautiful human being on this planet. Compared to no one. You hear what I’m saying? You are the most beautiful you. You are the best version of yourself."

So thank you, Gina. Your words are exactly what we needed to remember that we are all BORN to slay.
