There's a reason why the sex scenes in HBO's Sex and the City were so insane and yet so relatable, and that's because they were actually based on true stories. We know what you're thinking. There's NO way that the politician who wanted Carrie to pee on him after sex was real, or that Mr. Cocky with the super big peen that hooked up with Samantha happened to a real person. Well, believe it or not, they were. In fact, as outlandish as these stories may have seemed, Cynthia Nixon, aka Miranda insists they all really happened. In an interview with IMDB, Nixon said:
"They had a rule in the writing that they couldn't put anything in an episode that didn't literally happen to someone in the writer's room or someone they knew firsthand. It couldn't be, like, my father's brother's sister shoe repair guy heard once that, you know. So the outlandish physical, sexual things that happened — they really did happen."
We don't know about you, but this fun fact makes us want to binge watch SATC all over again. The amount of sex lessons we learned from the show is so valuable. We're sure there's more tidbits of sex-ed in there than we had originally conceived. Here are 12 sex lessons from SATC we will remember forever and ever!
Sex fetishes are real
Remember that time Carrie dated that older politician and it didn't work out because he wanted to pee on her after sex? Sex fetishes really do exist my friends . . . and we weird ones with urine.
Too much of a good thing
Believe it or not, there are penises that can be too big for your vagina. Mr. Cocky's peen was too big even for Samantha to handle.
Some men are obsessed with going down
That time Charlotte thought she met the one and found out she was dating "Mr. Pussy," a.k.a the dude that was known for going down on every woman in town.
Vibrators are sold at places like Sharper Image?
That time Samantha confused a neck massager for a vibrator, broke it and couldn't return it. We learned that the place to get actual vibrators is at a sexy toy shop not at Sharper Image.
Priests crave sex too
Leave it to Samantha to try to sleep with a Catholic priest. She didn't have any luck but she sure did leave him tempted.
The rabbit vibrator is amazing
No one knew what the rabbit vibrator was until that episode of SATC after Miranda purchased one. Let's just say those $92 bunny ears aren't for decoration.
It's not always easy to get an orgasm
Who can forget that time Samantha thought she lost her orgasm for good. She tried everything from masturbating, vibrators, electric tooth brushes— the works! Hey sometimes it takes a little extra work to get your hoo-ha up and going.
Sometimes you gotta fake it
Miranda taught us that sometimes it is necessary to fake an orgasm, whether you really want to or not.
Erectile Dysfunction can ruin relationships
Charlotte's first husband Trey struggled with erectile dysfunction and it pretty much ruined their marriage. Not even couples therapy helped.
Semen can taste funky
Samantha taught us that a man's semen can have a funky taste. We were grateful for the warning.
Jack rabbit sex
Having sex like rabbits isn't always as great as it sounds, like that time Carrie slept with that man that had no idea what he was doing.
Sober sex is sometimes best
We felt Miranda's pain that time she got drunk and slept
with that hot detective only for him to leave her a post-it the next morning
with a number for AA.
