It's refreshing to look back on a major moment that impacted your life and that's exactly what Ugly Betty actress America Ferrera has done. As the 32-year-old graduated to other successful projects such as Superstore, she recently had a humbling moment to reflect on her historic 2007 Emmy win. As the first Latina to score the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy award, Ferrera reveals that she didn't realize the gravity of the experience she had 10 years ago. "I wasn’t even aware of it until after the fact, until other people brought it to my attention, that I was the first Latina to win the Emmy, which was not a big part of the story and I certainly didn’t even think of it that way. Looking back and thinking, ‘Oh wow, that barrier was broken when I won,’ that’s really special and regardless of what happens that can never be undone. I was so in a bubble that I wasn’t even aware of what that moment meant in a larger context for women like me in the industry," she told Variety.

Ferrera has definitely used her platform to speak out on various issues that Latinos face. From the joke she pulled at the 2016 Golden Globes with Eva Longoria about all Latinas looking the same and getting confused in Hollywood, to her views on the #OscarsSoWhite situation, Ferrera isn't holding back. It's interesting to see how far she's come. From not understanding the impact she created as a young Latina actress to spearheading dialogues about Latinos for Latinos. As she continues to dominate the entertainment industry, we can't wait to see what causes she lends her voice to next. She's put in hard work and is making her community proud.
