"When I was told that Will Smith wanted to collaborate on a remix with Bomba, I couldn't believe it," said Simón Mejia, Bomba Estéreo's founder/multi-instrumentalist. And, so the press release stated as we fuddled through our email inbox on this gloomy morning.
What? Come again? Will Smith is making music after how many years of silence, and with Bomba Estéreo!? Yes, all of the above is true!
How did this happen!? We have lots of questions. Smith, apparently, discovered Bomba Estéreo’s music during a recent visit to Colombia and “fell in love with their electro tropical style.”
It was reported that Smith was in Uruguay with his pal Marc Anthony in June celebrating Colombia's World Cup victory. Perhaps that is when Smith got into Bomba Estéreo’s music.
"This opportunity to work with Will was beyond anything we have dreamed of. It's not a traditional featuring — it's just magic," Mejia said. "We all had a blast together at the video shoot and we want to thank Will for being so warm and such a pleasure to work with...and for rapping in Spanish!"
The music video has already been shot in Los Angeles and will be released shortly, until then listen to the track above. And, please turn it way up!
