Misty Snow and Misty Plowright have a lot in common. They share the same first name, they're both transgender, they're both politicians, and they both won a nomination in the Democratic primaries this week.
Snow even made history with her nomination by becoming the first transgender U.S. Senate candidate, NBC News reports. She follows Amanda Simpson, who was the first trans woman to win a seat in the Arizona House in 2004.
Plowright won the nomination for a seat in the Colorado Statehouse, and if she wins against Republican Senator Mike Lee in November, she'd become the become the first transgender U.S. senator.
This week has been amazing for the transgender community. Today defense secretary Ash Carter lifted the ban on transgender soldiers, and instituted some guidelines to make the military safer for them.
