It may come as no surprise to see an increase in hate crimes since Donald Trump became president. The Republican spoke ill of Mexicans in particular, saying, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists...”

This hateful speech, given at his presidential bid announcement, seems to have resonated with students at the University of Central Florida, where a Facebook event was created to offer “an in-depth tutorial” on how to “report illegal immigrants to the ICE, INS, and DHS!”

The event was deleted after a Twitter user shared screenshots of it, which was scheduled to take place on April 2.

The Facebook page, titled “UCF Underground: Get as many illegals deported,” encouraged students to “Help dirty illegals meet their fate at the hands of La Migra!” In the Latinx community, La Migra refers to Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) officers.

Students like Binyomin Akiva Grega, a Latino member of the Facebook group who created the event, said it was a joke and the reaction is “ridiculous,” according to the Orlando Sentinel.

But the Latinx community and officials aren’t laughing.

The university is investigating the event and has alerted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, said UCF police spokesperson Courtney Gilmartin. In a statement she told the Orlando Sentinel:

“Diversity and inclusivity are woven into the fabric of UCF. The university is committed to continuing the uphold these values and being a place where all students can learn and grow.”

The Latinx community at UCF is made up thousands of students.

According to the school’s site, almost one quarter of UCF students are Latinx – which is about 15,000 people – while nearly three percent call themselves “nonresident alien,” – about 2,000 people.

The initial user who called attention to the event was baffled that despite UCF being a sanctuary college, students would still behave this way.
