As I get older, the #treatyoself motto has started to become a way of life. This is especially true for my skin. It has been getting drier over time and fighting that will be the key to keeping wrinkles away for as long as possible. My eyes are no exception, and after scanning through Jessica Alba’s Instagram account one day, I got inspired to kick things up a notch with some gold eye patches.
The new Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches were right up my alley. Since my main issue is dryness, which interferes with a smooth application of color corrector and concealer, the product’s hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and hydrolyzed collagen give the hydration I need and the pure 24-karat gold helps to lock it all in. But don’t let the gold freak you out when it comes to the price tag. For $75, you get 60 patches, which comes down to $2.50 per treatment.
I really enjoyed the packaging since the shiny gold lid felt totally luxe, but I quickly ruined it with my fingerprints (the struggle!). Once I opened it up I discovered that there was a second lid inside with a small spatula on top for you to use to scoop out the treatment-infused patches and keep everything sanitary. That scored the products some major points in my book because cross-contamination totally freaks me out. Now it was time to get to the good stuff. I removed the internal lid to find a gorgeous stack of gel eye patches. They were a translucent yellow color with gold flecks that looked like sparkling yellow-stained glass once I applied them to my skin.
The first few minutes wearing the eye patches felt incredibly refreshing, like a splash of cold water on my face. They were coated with plenty of serum, which was very comforting for the dry skin under my eyes. I had them on for a total of 15 minutes and their grip on my skin felt tighter and tighter (like mini suction cups) as the serum absorbed into my skin. I don’t have issues with puffiness, but the tight feeling did make me wonder about how it would help someone with that concern so I enlisted my boyfriend, who has under eye bags, for this test. Thanks to its caffeine, it did make a small visible difference in their appearance.
Once my time with the patches was up, I peeled them off very easily and massaged whatever serum was lingering into my skin. I ended up with a glow that looked like I just had the best workout of my life (minus all of the actual work and sweat). The result was the perfect canvas for makeup.
A good eye cream will get you similarly awesome results, but what made this really stand out was the whole experience around it. Sitting back with my gold eye patches felt like the ultimate treat, totally worthy of a special occasion. I’ll be saving them for just that.
