A year ago, Cuba started offering home and apartment listings on Airbnb, though at the time, they were only available to U.S. customers. However, starting April 2, residents from other countries will finally be able to rent out Cuban properties. The company received permission for the upgrade from the U.S. Department of Treasury on Sunday, the same day President Barack Obama arrived on the island (making him the first sitting president to visit Cuba since 1928).
Cuba started a similar rental service in the '90s that allows people to rent out casas particulares, or rooms in private homes, for as little as $30 per day. Since joining Airbnb last year, the island has added its casas particulares to the site. Airbnb cofounder Nathan Blecharczyk says in the past year, 13,000 guests from all 50 U.S. states have stayed at a Cuban rental. If given the chance to travel to Cuba, booking lodging through Airbnb seems like the way to go for comfortable homes that have all the Cuban charm. Here are six rentals that would make a Cuban visit extra special.
