If you've had your heart set on vacationing to Cuba, your dreams might just come true next year. The United States and Cuba agreed to restore commercial flights between the two countries for the first time in more than half a century — huge news!
U.S. law still bars travel to Cuba for tourism alone, but considering
all the progress we've been making lately it's only a matter of time
before that changes too. Let's not forget that it was only a year ago
when President Barack Obama and Cuban head of state Rául Castro met to reestablish diplomatic relations between Cuba and the
States for the first time in more than 50 years. According to the state department:
"This arrangement will continue to allow charter operations and establish scheduled air service, which will facilitate an increase in authorized travel, enhance traveler choices, and promote people-to-people links between the two countries."
This is serious progress. Let's not forget that just a few days ago, the U.S. and Cuba had agreed to reestablish mail service between the two countries. Opening commercial flights is just another step toward normalizing relations and another step closer to Cuba allowing American travel for tourism.
