A half-nude photo of Selena Gomez, posted by photographer Mert Alas, has mysteriously disappeared from Instagram after fans criticized her for the provocative shot.

The photo shows Gomez looking seductively at the camera while wearing only a towel and nude thong.

Fashion photographer Mert Alas, who can also be seen in the photos, posted the photo on January 12. At least, that's when it started making the rounds on Twitter. Some fans praised her provocative look.

"SELENA GOMEZ IS SLAYING!!!" one fan gushed.

But the accolades for Gomez's scantily clad snap quickly turned to slut shaming.

Most of the criticism centered around a speech Gomez gave in November at the American Music Awards. While accepting the award for best female artist, Gomez told fans, "I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what's in here," as she touched her heart.

Gomez's speech, coupled with the sexy shot, proved too much for some fans to handle.

"She was telling girls what they should do with their bodies, which is gross and insulting," one commenter wrote. "She's a hypocrite."

Others jumped to her defense, writing, "since when does saying what's inside is important mean that a girl can't fucking show some skin? She was talking about PRIORITIES." Others pointed out that Alas, not Gomez, posted the photo.

By January 13, the photo had been removed from Alas' Instagram.

No word on whether Alas removed it at Gomez's request.
